After 29 years with the elite fighting unit, Smith assumed leadership of the SEAL foundation last year, one marked by triumph (the killing of Osama bin Laden) and tragedy (the deaths of 22 SEALs in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan). “Business-people from around New England are gathering tomorrow night in Boston to benefit a group of veterans and their families.
These are veterans who the nation has come to rely on more, especially since 9-11. And a group that often operates in secrecy.
The New England Warrior Benefit will be held at the Seaport World Trade Center Boston to honor those serving or have served as part of U.S. Special Forces and their families. The program provides both material assistance and psychological support, especially for those veterans who have witnessed especially disturbing things in the course of their service.”
